A guide to Big Bras, and shopping online
Many women are apprehensive about buying big bras online. Sizing issues, security issues, and just the fact that you can’t try it on first. But there are some big upsides, and online shopping is getting more and more mainstream.
So thats why I have decided to write this guide. Because it isn’t that tricky really, and although there is the occasional one, getting wrong sizes (or at least finding the size isn’t right for you) isn’t a big problem either.
But the upside of course, especially if you require a particularly big bra size, is the choice.
Off-line you can typically expect to find a fairly small selection of probably pretty limited sizes, maybe finding an occasional G cup (if you’re lucky)
This is where shopping online is best. You can easily search for your size on Google directly. Or you can find plenty of sites which specialize in big bras. (google ‘big bras’ and have a look at some of the great sites that are out there)
I know of a couple in particular which offer good search facilities, so that you can search for your size, and let them show you everything they have to offer.
So what else? Other than the abundance of choice? Well, as if that in itself wasn’t fantastic, online shops more and more seem to be taking an interest in serving their customers.
Let me explain, although there are a few fairly clinical sites, a lot of sites actually have some resources on fitting and styles etc. It’s nice to feel like the site is actually pandering to your needs.
All in all, if you know where to go, it really doesn’t need to be like finding your way through a jungle, so to speak.
OK, so the point of this article is firstly to give you some tips about buying big bras online. Well in my opinion the first step is to go to the right site.
There are plenty of good sites about, I personally prefer the ones which are more geared toward the user, so find a site which looks friendly, it doesn’t have to be all high tech and flashy.
Just find a site which is easy to use, because it’s nice to be able to enjoy browsing, not having to search around trying to figure out what to do.
The next step, and this is an important one, is getting the size right. Most sites will happily exchange your bra for a different size, although it can be a pain waiting, so it’s best to get it right first time.
This isn’t as tricky as you might expect, as long as you know your true size. There is a whole load of information to make sure you get your fit just right on my website, so check the resources at the bottom of this article.
So to sumarise, when shopping for plus size bras online there are two main things to do.
Firstly – find a shop with a nice easy to use home page – if their home page isn’t nice then the rest of their ordering system isn’t likely to be that easy to use either.
And personally I like a nice easy shopping experience.
And secondly – make sure you can swap sizes easily enough, or better yet, buy more than one size at a time (if the company doesn’t mind too much).
I hope this article will give you more confidence to go and buy your next bra online, because I’m sure that you will not regret taking the leap.

We often give men a lot of grief about keeping jeans, shirts and what have you long after they’ve worn out. Well, we ladies are no better. The vast majority of us keep wearing comfortable bras that are badly worn. Bras are expensive, so buying new ones doesn’t always make sense. There are, however, steps you can take to make your bras last much longer.
The modern bra is a huge advancement over those brassieres worn by our ancestors, but they are still delicate pieces of clothing. Most bras come with specific instruction on how they should be laundered. Sometimes you have to visit the website of the brand to find them. If you cannot locate the instructions, there are basic guidelines to follow that will help make your bras last.
Hand Washing
A little elbow grease goes a long way with bras. They are delicate items, so putting them into washers and dryers is like putting a Faberge Egg in the dishwasher. It is going to take a beating. Your bra will be pulled and stretched as it gets caught up in other clothes. Pulling and stretching are very bad for bras. Pile all your bras up for a week and wash them by hand in a sink then let them air dry. Do this and your bras will last at least twice as long compared to using the washer and dryer approach.
Detergent
Bras are often referred to as the “delicates” for a reason. We are not scrubbing the grout in the shower here. Cleaning a bra should not be an occasion to do some venting. Relax and use a detergent that is very mild. This will keep the cups and stitching from becoming frayed and worn.
Temperature
Like your water warm? Well, I have some bad news. Bras should be washed in cold water. Cold water is the only temperature that will not tighten up the material in your bras. This means it will fit the same every time. If you use hot water, the cups will tend to shrink up a bit. This will require a bit of stretching when you first wear the bra again. Stretching and contracting is bad for bras, so it should be avoided. Suck it up and wash those bras in cold water.
So, how long will this extend the life of your bras? It depends on many factors, but you should see double the life compared to washing them in the washer/dryer approach.

Plus size bras have numerous benefits for the heavily endowed woman. The main benefit is health but there are a variety of societal reasons for wearing plus size bras. Plus size bras support, cover, and elevate the breast while providing modesty, femininity, and sexuality.
First let’s look at the health reasons for plus size bras. A full figure woman has heavy breasts. Breast movement is a concern for big busted women. Unsupported breasts move when you walk around. They move even more when you exercise. This causes the damage to the Cooper’s ligaments that help support and uplift the breasts. The result is premature sagging. A proper plus size bra will prevent movement and damage to these ligaments thus delaying saggy breasts.
Excessive breast movement can lead to neck, shoulder, rib, and back pain. During activities your breasts can move extensively. Plus size bras lift the breasts off the chest wall and help support the weight of the breast tissue. The goal is to minimize movement and support the excess weight by distributing it across the back and shoulders. To help prevent pain, your plus size bras must fit correctly and have a good supportive band.
Unsupportive breasts can also lead to irritation. When you exercise, you sweat and your breasts flap against your chest. This can be uncomfortable and lead to irritation. Sweat collects under the breasts and free flowing breasts continually hit against the chest during movement. A proper plus size bra will lift the breasts off the chest wall and reduce the sweat and the slap.

Shopping for a bra is probably not that high on your list of fun things to do. With this in mind, you probably also don’t put a lot of thought into it. Eventually, this will result in the purchase of bras that simply are not good fits for your body.
Time is not on our side. With the passage of time comes changes to our body. You might gain weight. A lucky few might lose weight. Gravity slowly, but surely, will take its toll. Just as you don’t wear the size 1 you wore when you were 16, your bra size is going to change as well. With this in mind, here are some helpful bra shopping tips.
Get Measured
When was the last time you had a professional bra fitting? Can you even remember? Most women go years and years without having it done. This is a big mistake. Your breast will change shape as time passes. If you gain weight, the bust size will grow and so will the measurement around your chest. If you are showing back fat when putting on your bra, the size is most likely wrong. A professional fitting can make a world of difference in how you look and feel.
Mix It Up
When was the last time you bought a different style of bra? Most women buy the same couple of bras over and over. I am certainly guilty of this. The problem with this approach is bra design is improving all the time. Most women can’t stand getting poked by underwire bras, for instance, but new designs have minimized the “pokeability” of these bras. It makes a world of difference! Try new bras and you might just find a perfect bra for your body type.
Stop Cramming
Breasts are not like your derriere. There is no benefit to cramming them into a bra size smaller than you should wear. Women with larger busts, however, do this all the time. The breast do not benefit from being crushed into a cup and forced up against the chest wall. Be comfortable with your size. Consider breast reduction surgery if you are really bothered by being a larger size. Crushing the girls is not a healthy approach to the problem.
When it comes to buying bras, don’t just automatically follow your usual routine. Think it through, get fitted and try new styles and brands. You might just find the perfect bra.

The calendar has ticked over officially from the chill of winter to the warmth of spring. Okay, it hasn’t exactly warmed up yet, but one can start planning for the warmer weather, right? From an undergarment perspective, convertible bras are the bra for the season.
As the weather warms up, the way your support the girls will change. All winter you’ve worn clothing that is all about covering as much skin as possible unless you live in Hawaii. If you do live in Hawaii, I am insanely jealous but that is a subject for another article. For the rest of us peasants, the winter is about coverage and keeping the girls warm. Spring changes all that.
Spring fashion is about showing a bit more skin. As temperatures warm up, you can exchange those turtlenecks for sleeveless tops and sun dresses. The full coverage bras you wore through winter don’t exactly look great with such outfits. Depending on the cuts of your spring tops, you might need to go with a one strap or no strap bra. Conversely, you might need a racer-back configuration that provides full support, but keeps the straps closer to the base of the neck. You can buy individual bras for all these looks, but going with a couple convertible bras might be a better choice.
What is a convertible bra? It is essentially what the name suggests. The bra has straps that can be removed or reconfigured. This makes the brassiere incredibly flexible when it comes to configuring it to particular tops. It can be tailored to practically any look by removing the straps, but the added benefit is the straps can often be moved inward or outward on the cups to create a different vertical line as the straps move up your chest, past the neck and down your back.
So, should you add just one convertible bra to your collection? Nope. Get a couple. What happens is you get used to the comfort and flexibility of the bra. Soon you’ll start wearing it instead of your other bras. The wear and tear can make the bra fall apart quickly. To avoid this, find one convertible bra that fits well and is comfortable. Then buy a few of the bras so that you’ll be able to switch the bras out between cleanings. Remember, you shouldn’t wear a bra more than two days in a row without washing it.
Spring is a time to fling off those heavy, warm winter clothes. Replace your full coverage bras with convertible ones and you’ll be set for just about any top you’ll wear as the temperatures start to warm up.

We all have our favorite bras. You know – the couple that you wear over and over despite the fact you bra drawer has about 10 others that have magically appeared over the years. If you aren’t careful, however, you can run into subtle bra problems and not realize it.
Let me ask you a question that might seem obvious. Do you suffer from headaches or back pain? You’re probably thinking that everyone does and, well, you’re right. Stress does a number on all of us, but you might just find that the big “S” isn’t the problem. Instead, it could be how your girls are interacting with your bra.
Your bra should provide support from the bottom up, not the top down. What does this mean? It means that your bra should not hang from your shoulder. The band around the base should be the primary support mechanism. Do you have red marks on your shoulders where the straps sit? If so, you are wearing the bra incorrectly and are likely suffering back and neck pains as well as headaches. Switching to a bra that provides support from the bottom will make a world of difference.
Assuming you have the bottom up approach correct, another subtle problem that can arise is the sliding back issue. Your bra should ride parallel around your torso. This means that if you put your arms up and look in a mirror at your side, the band of the bra on the front and back of your torso should be at the same level. Fortunately, this tends to be the case just naturally in the way we put our bras on. That doesn’t mean a problem can’t still arise.
Your bra moves about during the day. As it moves, fitting problems can come to forefront. One of the common, but subtle, issues is the band starts to ride up your back. As you go through the day, it will slide slightly higher and higher. You may not notice it, but it will cause you to hunch your shoulders and will also remove most of the support in the front. Look at yourself from the side the next few days when you get home and change clothes. If you find your bra doing this, try tightening the band. Sometimes, you just have to settle for readjusting it every afternoon. Regardless, you will feel better once you stop hunching your shoulders.
For most women, getting a handle on these two issues can make a huge difference in how comfortable a bra is. Worn as intended, bras can be a real joy.
